Swajan Banker’s Community, designed by Architect Dharam Patel of Art & Architecture Associates, received the Public Choice Winner recognition at the Archello Awards 2025. The Archello Awards celebrate exceptional architectural projects worldwide, recognizing designs that demonstrate innovation, sustainability, and social impact.
Located in Padra, Gujarat, the project introduces a progressive model for senior living communities in India, redefining how architecture can support ageing with dignity, independence, and well-being. The development is envisioned as a supportive ecosystem where residential comfort, healthcare infrastructure, and hospitality-inspired spaces come together to create a holistic living environment.
The design moves away from conventional institutional models of senior housing and instead focuses on creating a community-oriented environment with courtyards, gardens, yoga and meditation halls, libraries, and community lounges. These spaces encourage interaction and social engagement while maintaining the privacy of individual residences.
Residential units are designed as fully accessible homes, featuring wheelchair-friendly circulation, anti-skid flooring, grab rails, and emergency response systems. Each unit is naturally ventilated and oriented toward gardens or terraces, strengthening the connection between indoor living spaces and the surrounding landscape.
Healthcare services are seamlessly integrated within the development through an on-site clinic, telemedicine facilities, diagnostic services, and 24/7 emergency response systems. This ensures that residents have access to essential healthcare support while maintaining the comfort of a residential environment.
Sustainability is a key component of the project. The architecture incorporates rammed earth walls, locally sourced materials, solar energy systems, rainwater harvesting, greywater recycling, and EV charging infrastructure. Passive design strategies such as orientation, shading, and cross ventilation reduce energy consumption and enhance environmental performance.
Winning the Archello Awards 2025 Public Choice Award highlights the project as a globally recognized example of innovative senior living architecture, demonstrating how thoughtful design can create communities that support independence, wellness, and social connection.
